Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge (world's only pontoon bridge)

If you think of Paris, you think about the Eiffel tower, London has the Big Ben, Beijing the Great wall, Giza have pyramids, and Curaçao? Which landmark does Curaçao have of this magnitude? Well Curaçao have the Old swinging lady. This is the affectionate nickname of the world famous Queen Emma Bridge which connects Punda and Otrobanda. The bridge is hinged and opens regularly to enable the passage of oceangoing vessels. The process only takes a few minutes to complete. The bridge was built in 1888 and was completely renovated in 1939. When the bridge swings open, two ferries spring into action allowing pedestrians to cross the water. The ferries are also free of charge

It bridge was once a toll bridge. Individuals without shoes were permitted to cross the bridge without paying the toll. It has the distinction of being the world’s only floating wooden bridge. It’s easy to see how the Queen Emma Bridge has become one of Curaçao’s most signature tourist attractions.
